Rather than treat this as a theoretical concept, we built it first to solve our own problem and tested it in our daily operation before offering it to other companies.
One of the features that best captures this approach is Slack-based time entry: at the end of each day, every employee receives a suggested time entry automatically generated from their GitHub and Jira activity. The person simply reviews it, makes adjustments if needed, and confirms. The result was a measurable drop in logging errors and a much more natural process for the team.
Employee holidays and time off are handled with the same principle: they sync directly with timesheets, so there's no need to adjust them manually every time someone takes a day off. This gives admins and team leads a clear, always up-to-date view of the team's actual availability.
The GitHub connection also lets us go beyond time tracking: commits, pull requests, comments, and ticket updates are turned into activity summaries that help understand each person's progress and performance, without requesting extra reports.
